Large-diameter fibers in the 1st layer (10 times bigger than in the 3rd layer) are loosely spaced, coiled and bundled for structural stability and to capture the larger paint particles. Fibers in the 2nd layer are engineered to intercept the mid-sized overspray particles. The 3rd layer is a dense mat of single-strand, 21-micron fibers. It is especially effective at capturing and retaining small, dry particles. Some series have a scrim backing, effectively adding a 4th layer.
